Since 2012, Verizon has partnered with districts through the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) program. VILS collaborates with middle and high schools to provide technology tools and training to transform teaching and learning. Six Tucson Unified schools are currently part of this program: Alice Vail Middle School, Lawrence 3-8 School, Mansfeld Magnet Middle School, Pueblo Gardens PreK-8 School, Secrist Middle School and Utterback Middle School.
Participating schools receive a stipend toward an instructional technology coach, who support teachers with professional development to effectively use technology in the classroom.
Each year, VILS celebrates standout programs and people with end of the year awards. This year, three Tucson Unified employees were recognized for their dedication.
