While two trainers are still insufficient to fully meet the growing demand, this addition represents the minimum needed within current budget constraints.

Justification: The Multicultural Curriculum Department requires an administrative assistant to enhance efficiency and support its mission of fostering equity and cultural inclusivity. This position will streamline clerical tasks, manage budgets, and ensure financial compliance, freeing staff to focus on strategic initiatives. Additionally, the assistant will support daily operations of the multicultural library, including resource cataloging and visitor assistance, ensuring accessibility to essential cultural materials. By addressing these critical needs, this role will strengthen the department’s capacity to deliver impactful programs and resources. At this point with the expansion of our program and the services that it provides, we are not able to function without one.

This workload is unsustainable and significantly limits the trainer's ability to deliver comprehensive support and comply with the Unitary Status Plan, which mandates that “professional development in multiculturalism as both an ideology and a practice will continue to be introduced to classroom teachers, staff, and site administrators through multiple site-based, job-embedded, and web-based training opportunities.” Adding a second academic trainer at the current level of operations will help alleviate some of the burden, but it is still not sufficient to meet the growing demand. A third academic trainer is critical to maintaining the current level of operations, which is not sustainable long-term. While this addition will not fully address the need, it represents the minimum required to continue delivering the necessary support and professional development at an ideal level.

While the addition of a second and third academic trainer represents progress, it remains insufficient to fully meet the growing demands of multicultural integration and professional development. To comply with the Unitary Status Plan, which mandates that “professional development in multiculturalism as both an ideology and a practice will continue to be introduced to classroom teachers, staff, and site administrators through multiple site-based, job-embedded, and web-based training opportunities,” the ideal level of funding would provide one professional development trainer for each of the district’s five regions. Adding two additional PDATs to the three currently budgeted in the previous level would ensure adequate and equitable support across all regions, meeting compliance requirements and allowing for sustainable operations at an enhanced level.
