Carrillo K-5 Communication and Creative Arts Magnet School is a nationally recognized, Certified Magnet Demonstration school and an A+ School of Excellence. Our magnet-infused curriculum is designed to teach students 21st Century skills through arts-integrated thematic units.
In addition to mastery of the Arizona College and Career Ready Standards through rigorous project-based learning units, students participate in fine & performing arts and technology specialized classes weekly, which directly connect with core learning experiences. Neighborhood traditions, like the Las Posadas events, El Presidio field trips and the annual Luau, are all an important part of our culture.

Kirstin Bittel
Kirstin Bittel is a Tucson native and TUSD alum. After graduating from the University of Arizona, she began working for TUSD. Since 1998, she has served as an elementary teacher, science teacher, district science specialist, magnet coordinator, title I coordinator, and assistant principal and has been the proud principal of Carrillo K-5 Communications and Creative Arts Magnet since 2021. She is an advocate for magnet schools, inclusivity, and excellence for all students.
