Tucson Unified School District completed a School Master Plan this past fall that explored ways to direct more education funding into the classroom to support the district's continued improvements in student achievement. The comprehensive plan addressed several significant issues including the impacts of reductions in state education funding, too many empty seats in TUSD schools (which dilute limited resources) and the recommendation of school consolidations involving closures and mergers as one approach to handle the financial deficit the district is facing in the 2013-14 fiscal year. Consolidating schools requires changing home schools and school attendance areas.

Tucson Unified School District's Food Services Department announces the sponsorship of the 2013 Summer Food Services Program for Children. This program provides free breakfast and lunch meals during the summer break to children attending summer programs at qualifying school and non-school sites. The meal service is also open to any child between 2 and 18 years of age living in the neighborhood even if they are not registered in a summer program at that site. The program operates May 28 through July 26. There will be no service on July 4 and 5.
