The Science Teacher of the Year Award is given annually by the ASTA to recognize and honor our colleagues who exemplify quality science teaching. The award is presented to one teacher from the elementary level, one from the middle school/junior high level, and one from the high school level at the annual ASTA convention. Nominees must be certified, full-time classroom teachers. This year Marguerite Samples from Dunham Elementary School in the Tucson Unified School District was recently awarded the Arizona Teachers Association’s 2010 Elementary Science Teacher of the Year Award. Marguerite has worked in the district for 16 years and has been at Dunham Elementary for the past 7 years. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher and a past BioME Science Teacher with the University of Arizona. Through her hard work and dedication, Marguerite has written grants to enrich the learning opportunities of her students and the community at Dunham. This year she was awarded a Western Grower’s Association Grant and is working with several other teachers on site to build a community garden. The staff and faculty at Dunham are proud to have her as a part of their TUSD family.
