TUSD Offers Girls Workshop on Non-traditional Careers

Eighth- and ninth-grade girls will get an up close look at non-traditional careers for women at a Girls Tackling Emerging Careers Camp Monday, July 28, through Friday, Aug. 1. It is sponsored by the Tucson Unified School District's Career and Technical Education Department.
Seventeen participants primarily from Pueblo Gardens Elementary School and Valencia, Hohokam and Vail middle schools are expected at the Girls TEC camp. Careers in law and law enforcement, 3-D computer modeling, aviation, fire science and engineering will be showcased.

- Monday, July 28: Law and Order
Rincon High School, 421 N. Arcadia Blvd.
8-8:15 a.m. Check in and registration
8:15-8:30 a.m. Welcome and orientation
8:30-9:50 a.m. Ice breaker, team building activities, self-esteem activity, and CTE program information
10-11:55 a.m. Teen Court, Mock Trial
Noon-12:55 p.m. Lunch with a professional/culinary activity
1-2:45 p.m. Federal Bureau of Investigation with an agent present
2:45-3 p.m. Wrap up and dismissal
- Tuesday, July 29: Close Encounters of the 3-D Kind

8:10-8:40 a.m. Blender introduction at LIRC Computer Lab
8:40- 9 a.m. Blender interface overview
9-10:15 a.m. Space-Scape activity

11 a.m. Board the bus for Pima Air and Space Museum
11:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Lunch, rocket building activity, women in flight tour
2:45 p.m. Return to LIRC and dismissal
