Oasis needs volunteer tutors
If you want to help children improve their reading skills, the Oasis program needs you as a volunteer. Tutors are needed to help primary school students build self-esteem, develop positive attitudes toward learning and improve their reading.
No teaching experience is needed. Oasis and TUSD will provide initial training and support will continue during the school year. Volunteers can choose among participating schools. Materials are free.
Interested volunteers should contact Barbie Wagoner at 232-8040 or barbara.wagoner@tusd1.org.
Stuff the Bus
The Tucson Unified School District and three local businesses are teaming up to gather school supplies for students who can't afford them. TUSD, the Tucson Association of Realtors, Office Max and Beaudry RV are sponsoring the "Stuff The Bus" drive from late July through early August.
An RV will be provided by Beaudry RV where members of the community can bring basic back-to-school items like backpacks, notebooks and binders. The RV will be located at the Office Max store at 5550 E. Brdwy. on July 18, 19, 25 and 26, and Aug. 1 and 2 between noon and 3 p.m. each day.
The RV will also be at the Tucson Association of Realtors office at 2445 N. Tucson Blvd, on Friday, Aug. 1 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. In addition, items can be dropped off at the same location July 17 through Aug. 2, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
In addition, Liz's Pantry, with Sasha and Tamara Laczkowski, will hold their seventh annual Stuff-a-Bus event. All types of school supplies will be accepted to meet the needs of TUSD students. Supplies can be dropped off at Walmart, 7150 E. Speedway at Kolb, Aug. 1-3, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. |
