At this competition, fourth and fifth grade students will participate in individual and team events. The following events are designed to allow students to show off their math skills:

  • Number Sense Round: 80 problems to be solved mentally in ten minutes
  • Sprint Round: 30 questions solved in 40 minutes (without the use of calculators)
  • Target Round: Four sets of two questions to be solved in six minutes per pair (calculators are allowed)
  • Team Round: Four team members collaborate to solve ten problems in 20 minutes (calculators are allowed)
  • Countdown Round: Top ten competitors battle each other one-on-one (no calculators)

Medals will be awarded to the top individuals, and trophies will be awarded to the top teams.

"We hope that this year's math championships help support student interest in mathematics, provide them with a positive learning experience, and above all, show them that math is fun," says Barry Calleson, University High math teacher and Math Club advisor.
