Thank You to the Sponspors Who Have Helped Manzo
Students Create Habitat for Desert Wildlife
Several local sponsors have chipped in to help Manzo Elementary
School students to plant native habitat in a vacant lot near
the school. Generous donors are Home Depot with a $2,000 gift
card, Trees for Tucson with 10 native trees, Desert Survivors
with 30 native plants, Bach's Greenhouse Cactus with a native
cacti assortment, Ward One and Egees with refreshments for
planting days.
Manzo Elementary School students hope to attract wildlife
to the native habitat they will plant this month on a vacant
lot the school is leasing from the City of Tucson.
Work on the Sonoran Desert Biome will begin Saturday, Nov.
3, 2007, from 8 a.m. to noon when 10 trees will be planted
and earth work done to maximize rainwater harvesting. Native
shrubs and cacti will be planted on Saturday, Nov. 17. About
20 parents, teachers and volunteers from the Barrio Hollywood
Neighborhood Association will help the 15-member Manzo Student
Council improve the lot, which Manzo is leasing for 50 years
at a cost of $1.
The area, located directly across the street from the northwest
corner of the campus at 855 N. Melrose, will be used as an
outdoor learning center and community space.
Thank you, sponsors, for helping to make this possible!
