Forming a Task Force

Applications for becoming part of the task force are accepted through Dec. 1.

In the coming year, Tucson Unified Schools will be engaging the community to create a 10-year plan for school buildings and sites so we move forward together to meet the educational needs of our children.

To do this we are expanding a task force formed last year for this purpose. The new task force will be a diverse group of community members, parents and individuals with an interest and background in public education.

The task force will be guided by the following goals:

  1. Plan in an open process with broad-based community empowerment and involvement to build positive relationships.
  2. Create schools that support 21st Century Education.
  3. Create neighborhood schools, especially at the elementary level.
  4. Provide the opportunity for diversity in all forms (ethnic, socio-economic, etc.) at each school.
  5. Provide greater opportunities for school choice for parents and students.
  6. Align educational programs and facilities to meet student achievement goals, increase efficiency, and move resources to schools and classrooms.

The task force will meet once a month for the next one to two years. Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed and as members are available. Project teams may be created by the task forces to provide recommendations on specific options or areas (for example a team may be formed to recommend the best boundary between two schools). The project teams will be facilitated by a member of the task force and will meet as necessary.

If you are interested in participating in this project or you would like to be on our mailing list, please fill out form below.

If you have any questions, call Bryant Nodine at 225-4948 or email Bryant.Nodine@tusd1.org.
