Communications Advisory Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the Tucson Unified Schools Communications Advisory Committee is to provide input and feedback to the Communications & Media Relations Department on improving the district’s internal and external communications; marketing district schools, programs and initiatives; maintaining a positive public image in the community; and strategies for progressive engagement with students, parents, employees and community members. This advisory committee will be comprised of up to 12 people representing the broad Tucson Unified Schools stakeholder groups. Advice from this committee also will serve as a vehicle for public engagement on strategies to promote and communication district initiatives.

The Ideal Applicant

The ideal applicant will have a vested interest in the success of Tucson Unified Schools, and may be a student, parent, teacher, staff person, administrator, or community member. Applicants will understand that the success of Tucson Unified Schools is central to Tucson’s community health and economic viability. Committee members will commit to being a voice for other stakeholders and will keep the best interest of all stakeholders in mind when offering comment. A communications background is not necessary, but interest in public communications, marketing, media, or advertising will be helpful.

Commitments

Once selected to serve, Communications Advisory Committee members will agree to the following:

  • Providing information and soliciting feedback to the larger audience they represent
  • Providing information and input on behalf of the larger audience they represent
  • Reviewing and analyzing district communications materials and marketing proposals
  • Understanding their role on this committee is strictly advisory with no decision-making authority
  • Attending at least quarterly meetings.
