The Arizona Legislature convened recently to address the state's projected $3 billion budget deficit. As the state's second largest K-12 school district, Tucson Unified is facing significant budget reductions for the current and subsequent years. Current year reductions are projected between $4 and $7 million. Next year's budget reductions, at 10 to 20% of Tucson Unfied School's operating budget, could be reduced between $36 and $72 million. Additionally, our schools have realized a current year enrollment decline between 1200 and 1500 students. At $5000 per student, this translates to a $6 million revenue loss.
As the front line experts in our Tucson Unified Schools community, parents, students, staff, and community members, you have demonstrated that you have original, effective ideas about improving our education system and saving costs. Your input is valuable in our efforts to make Tucson Unified Schools a stronger school system while we meet these budget challenges. Help us ensure a better future for the children of Tucson by submitting your ideas. Please submit your ideas by using the online form.
