School's in Session: Drive Carefully!

TUSD classes began on Monday, August 11. As students return to school, remember to exercise extra caution on the road. The American Automobile Association recommends the following precautions:

• Pay special attention and reduce speeds when driving near schools and in residential areas.
• Drive with extra care during the morning and afternoon when the school day is beginning or ending.
• Watch for children who might run into the street.
• Stop for school buses when they are loading or unloading students. It is against the law to pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing.

Attention Vendors: District Bid/RFP Notices Available Online

The TUSD Purchasing Department now posts bid and request-for-proposal information on the TUSD web site. This online database provides information about bid/RFP opening and closing dates, contacts, and notices that can be downloaded and printed. For more information, see the Bid Opportunity web page.

TUSD Athlete Sets World Record

Ryan Silva, a 12-year-old runner and student at Doolen Middle School, has set the world record for the 12-year-old boys' mile. At the Portland Track Festival on May 31, 2008, Ryan ran the mile in 4:43.78, setting the new world record. The previous record for the 12-year-old boys' mile was set in 1968 by Andrew Barnett of Great Britain. Ryan runs as part of the Tucson Elite track team.
