  • Tucson Unified Guide to Retirement
    If you're getting ready to retire, please consult the Tucson Unified Guide to Retirement (in PDF), which provides important retirement information and instructions you will need to follow for a worry-free retirement.
  • Notice of Intent to Separate
    If you are planning to retire be sure to complete the Intent to Separate form (in PDF) before your bargaining unit deadline and give it to your direct supervisor and Human Resources.


    Please do not use an older version of this form than provided above. The FAQ section attached to the Intent to Separate form will help answer your questions about separating from the District.

  • Sick Leave Pay Out
    Be sure to read your applicable employee agreement for eligibility requirements of sick leave payout. Some agreements also have deadlines listed for turning in a separation notice in order to be eligible for the sick leave payout:

    • If you are a teacher, counselor, nurse or another position that is covered under the TEA CONSENSUS AGREEMENT, you must turn in your "intent to separate" on or before November 1st or February 1st for a separation at the end of the semester. Separations effective at the end of the semester are not assessed the liquidated damages fee. The separation notice also serves as your request for any sick leave payout for which you may be eligible; see Article 24 to see if you qualify.
    • If you are covered under the ELI AGREEMENT, the deadline for providing the separation notice (and therefore be considered for sick leave payout if eligible) is November 15th or January 15th for a separation at the end of the semester. Refer to Article 9 for specific information on eligibility of the sick leave payout.
    • If you are an EXEMPT ADMINISTRATOR (most Director Positions), the deadline is also November 15th or January 15th for an end-of-semester separation. Article 9 explains the eligibility of the sick leave payout and qualifications.
  • Benefits in Retirement
    Contact the Arizona State Retirement System (520) 239-3100 regarding other options available to you. Note: you may be eligible for an insurance subsidy.

Post-Retirement Options

Be sure you read and understand the return to work guidelines that apply to you as an ASRS retiree. You MUST be able to accurately identify your retirement date, and if you used “Normal” or “Early” Retirement when returning to an ASRS employer. They are available on the ASRS website at
